In 2027, global foldable mobile phone shipments will exceed the 100 million mark

Counterpoint Research on Wednesday released the latest global foldable smartphone tracking and forecast report, which is expected to ship more than 101.5 million foldable phones globally by 2027, with Samsung and Apple accounting for the largest market share.

Commenting on the growth expectations, Tom Kang, Research director at Counterpoint Research, said: "For now, foldable devices remain a niche market. But it's an important segment for brands that want to maintain innovation leadership and premium market presence."

Kang added: "Samsung and Chinese Oems have been very active, especially in their home markets, but there is still a lot of room for improvement in these efforts. Regional drivers, especially in China, coupled with increasing consumer willingness to purchase foldable devices, will help maintain strong shipment growth. "China became the world's largest foldable phone market last year."

Senior analyst Jene Park said: "In the long term, we are waiting to see what Apple will do. We expect a possible debut of the iPhone in 2025, which could provide another boost to the segment."
Park added: "When we look at the current consumer response, our latest global foldable smartphone preference survey shows that the majority of respondents are willing to buy, especially current users. This is a good sign and tells us that the hype around foldable devices is justified.
